Treat Yo Self

Some days, you find yourself in Nordy's during your lunch break. What are you supposed to do? In between touching ALL of the beautiful handbags, you gotta get something to scratch that spending itch.

You don't need to give me a lecture about how I should save my money for things I really want, or shop more frugally. I do those things regularly. Well, kind of. And sometimes, I just want it. I WANT IT. NOW.

And sometimes, I get it:

Like this awesome, oversized, zip-around wallet/clutch from Nordstrom's. I love it. It is big enough to hold all my crap: various customer loyalty cards, a pope medal - seriously, emergency earrings (you don't carry those?). Please note specifically how I didn't mention cash. Because my wallet isn't actually used for that, silly!

One of my favorite parts is the ID sleeve. There is a small ID sleeve in the wallet, with a space for three cards. This small piece snaps in and out of the wallet, keeping all my critical cards together so I can throw it in a going-out evening bag or whatever. I like how everything zips up and I can throw the whole thing into a diaper bag, or just run into Starbucks with the wallet/clutch, as opposed to my giant handbag.

In my experience, the Halogen brand, which is Nordy's house brand, has a good reputation, and if it breaks or doesn't work out for me, the customer service at Nordstrom's is the best, and they will take it back or replace without a question.

I know I probably spent a little too much for it, and I really would have preferred something in a brighter color, since the purse I am carrying right now is also grey, but I think I can learn to live with this.

What fun things have you splurged on lately?

Whaaaaaa ?

Y'all. Did you see this?

Yea. Google Reader is going away. I am very integrated to the whole Google platform, so this really bums me.

What REALLY bums me is that I can't turn to my regular reader and "Google Next" button to browse my reading list anymore. BOOOOO.

What are you all using for RSS feeds? My favorite feature of Google Reader is the "Google Next" button, where one click takes me to the next item on my reading list, directly to the originating webpage. So easy for leaving comments and such.

What do you all use? I need to try something new (SCARY), and I need some advice and opinions!!

Not flaking out

So I haven't been dipping out on you again, I promise.  My life has just been busy and interesting lately.

So busy, in fact, that this morning, I forgot to wear a bra.

True story.

And no, I don't understand how that happens.

Downton Abbey Night

Updated, 9:47 am, February 18:
PBS, REALLY? YOU WANT ME TO GIVE YOU MONEY AFTER THAT SHOWING?
As I said to my dear friend Kate as we texted during/after the show: "PBS - you want me to donate NOW? You are like a classy educated version of a crack den."

I can't handle it people

ORIGINAL POST:

You know, I live for this.

Season Finale, y'all. I wanted to have a Downton Viewing party, but, um, that didn't happen.  I am so anxious to see what happens with Matthew's character. And also for Lord Grantham to stop being a total bonehead. And Lady Mary to stop being a bitch not really I don't know what she's being, but it's bugging me. And poor Lady Edith to catch a break. And Lady Sybil to rise from the dead and return.

That last one asking too much?

Anyway, I can't bear thinking of the cast not in character, and like this.

So someone at the Today Show looked directly into my soul and created a drinking game for the show. Let's play:

  • When Carson gives Mrs. Hughes a meaningful look, have a swig.
  • When Lord Grantham acts like a oblivious dinosaur of a patriarch, take a teeny-tiny sip. (Just be careful -- you don't want to get too tipsy on this one alone!)
  • When the Dowager Countess gives someone the side eye, take a sip.
  • When anyone mentions the dearly departed Sybil or even Sybil Jr., have a swig (and maybe pour a little out in honor of the former).
  • When it looks like all hope is lost -- whether Downton is in danger, love can't conquer all, or someone's at death's door -- enjoy a hearty gulp.
  • When the Dowager Countess makes you laugh out loud with one of her signature zingers, finish your glass!

    Let's spend some Presidents

Newsflash: I like to buy shit.

And I am a sucker for a (perceived) online deal.

    And this offends me:

Really, Old Navy? 15% is the most you can swing for me? I am a valued customer. Wait. I do not need to justify myself to you. I am going to cry my tears of dissatisfaction into the arms of some other retailer!

Anyone know of any good online or real sales this holiday weekend?

and this is what I'm worried about

Yesterday, the thing that was concerning me is not Ash Wednesday, and what did I give up.  Still working on that.

It's the crazy level of anxiety I had regarding my daughter's preschool class. Yesterday is the Valentine's Day party, which means I was obligated to send it cute little Valentines for 11 preschoolers.

And I bought them from Target.

I didn't look at Pinterest, I didn't get any crafty ideas. I didn't buy glitter or craft paper or hearts or doilies. (Not because I don't want to do those things. I am not crafty, I am not creative, and I just don't have patience. Or time.)

I bought packaged valentines with a little gel-cling for the kids.

And I carried around that guilt, ALL DAY - about buying Valentine's Day cards for 3-year-olds FROM THE STORE (I also included tiny packets of Goldfish. Can't argue with food, right?).

Even though the night before last I was *thisclose* to ripping out my own hair as I tried to cook dinner, work, and keep Nay from running out the back door in 40 degree temps while my husband was away at an appointment. I was still feeling all the I'm-not-a-good-enough-mom Guilt.

IMAGINE my relief when I came home to see the Valentines she had rexceived from classmates - All store bought! Except for one - that overachieving (class-mom, of course) had her kids picture on Shutterfly cards (indicating she thought about this BEFORE this week).  Y'all - there was even one with an ill-cut construction paper heart and a Peppermint Patty taped to it!

Dressed for Preschool Valentine's Day Party!

Chalking this one up as a Parenting NON-fail. FTW.
